Colorado Eagles forward Alex Barre-Boulet has made an immediate impact for the Eagles in his first season with the organization. Now in his eighth season in professional hockey, the Montmagny, Quebec, Canada native has had success wherever he’s been.
Through the first 48 games of the season, Barre-Boulet leads the Eagles in assists with 34 and points with 51. Now on his third AHL team, Barre-Boulet has established himself as one of the top players in the league, as he ranks third in the league in overall points.
“It’s been fun, especially the past month and a half, I’d say, the chemistry with (Tye) Felhaber and (Jayson) Megna has been really good. So, it’s been great living here. It’s been great for my family, and it’s a lot different than living out East, that’s for sure,” Alex Barre-Boulet said.
Barre-Boulet’s impact on the Eagles goes beyond the surface as he’s been a consistent high-point producer nearly every year, as he has eclipsed the 60-point mark three times in his career, and is on pace to break the 60-point mark for a second straight year, and four times total in his career.
“I’ve been blessed to have played on some really good teams over the years, played with some great players, even in my first year, where I played with Carter Verhaeghe. I’ve also been around a lot of experienced guys, so been blessed with teammates so far,” Barre-Boulet said.
Last season, Barre-Boulet played for the Laval Rocket, where he also led the team in assists and points. Just outside a point per game last season, Barre-Boulet had 63 points in 64 games and posted an eye-opening 41 assists.
“It’s funny because I’ve coached against him for four years out east, as a rival, and in the playoffs against him. So, I’ve seen firsthand what he can do,” said Eagles head coach Mark Letestu. “For us, he’s brought his energy, and he also has this sense of humor in the room with the guys. But on the ice, his details are so professional, with the way he moves around the ice, the way he gets to space, the way he forechecks. He’s got a very professional approach, and that rubs off on his teammates really well,” added Letestu.
Thus far, Barre-Boulet has been playing with Jayson Megna and Tye Felhaber on the top line for the Eagles, where they have a combined 113 points, as they’ve been huge contributors for the Eagles in the first half of the season.
“All three of us are working really hard now, and it’s paying off. We’re on the puck on the forecheck, we get the puck in deep, and we don’t try to do anything too complicated, so it’s been good so far,” Barre-Boulet said.
Barre-Boulet has been a big reason why the Eagles’ power play is clicking at 20%. He’s tied first on the team in power-play points with 14 and tied third in power-play goals with five.
“Obviously power play has always been my thing, so it’s good to contribute as much as I have so far,” Barre-Boulet said.
As the second half of the season continues, the games become more important, and Barre-Boulet looks to continue his success for an Eagles team that has been at or near the top of the standings for the majority of the season thus far.
