Colorado Avalanche Assign Five Players to Eagles

WINDSOR, CO. – The Colorado Eagles, proud AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche, have announced that forwards Martin Kaut, Mikhail Maltsev, Jayson Megna and Shane Bowers have been assigned to the Eagles by the team’s NHL affiliate, along with defenseman Wyatt Aamodt.

 

Kaut was selected by the Avalanche with 16th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. The 23-year-old is now entering his fifth season of professional hockey and has generated 42 goals and 49 assists in 163 career AHL games with Colorado. Kaut produced new career highs last season in goals (19) and points (31) and also posted five points in five playoff contests with the Eagles. In addition to his time in the AHL, the Brno, Czech Republic native has notched two goals and one assist in 20 career NHL games, all with the Avalanche.

 

Maltsev is coming off a 2021-22 campaign that saw him collect 17 goals and 31 assists in 56 AHL contests with Colorado, all marking new career highs. The 25-year-old also skated in 18 NHL games with the Avalanche last season. Maltsev was selected in the fourth round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft by the New Jersey Devils and has appeared in 33 NHL games with the Devils, posting six goals and three assists.

 

Megna spent the 2021-22 season serving as the Eagles co-captain, along with defenseman Jacob MacDonald. Megna would go on to generate 13 goals and 20 assists in just 38 AHL games last season with Colorado. He also notched three assists in 20 NHL games with the Avalanche. In total, the Ft. Lauderdale, Florida native has amassed 38 goals and 38 assists in 94 games with the Eagles. Megna has netted 118 goals and 127 assists in 406 career AHL contests, while also putting up 10 goals and 15 assists in 148 total NHL appearances with the Avalanche, Vancouver Canucks, Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers.

 

Bowers was drafted by the Ottawa Senators with the 28th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft and has generated 23 goals and 22 assists in 117 AHL contests with Colorado. He also notched four points in four postseason appearances with the Eagles during the 2022 AHL Calder Cup playoffs. Prior to turning pro, Bowers was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team after producing 17 goals and 15 assists with Boston University during the 2017-18 season.

 

Aamodt is entering his first full season of professional hockey after concluding his collegiate career at Minnesota State. In addition to helping lead the Mavericks to the 2022 NCAA National Championship Game, the 24-year-old helped drive Minnesota State to WCHA regular-season titles in three consecutive seasons and finished the 2021-22 campaign ranked second among Mavericks defensemen in scoring (12 pts), while also leading the team with 56 blocked shots. Aamodt made his pro debut late last season, skating in three regular-season games and nine playoff contests with the Eagles.
