The Colorado Eagles will face off against the San Diego Gulls for the second time of their three-game series on Friday.
Colorado goaltender Adam Werner turned aside 26 of the 27 shots he faced to help lead the Eagles to a 2-1 win over the San Diego Gulls on Wednesday. Forwards Martin Kaut and Riley Woods each netted a goal in the victory, while defenseman Keaton Middleton chipped in a pair of assists. The win was punctuated by a 3-for-3 performance in a contest where the Gulls were limited to just 23 shots on net.
On Thursday the Eagles recalled goaltender Kevin Carr from the ECHL’s Utah Grizzlies and also signed Sasha Mutala to an amateur tryout agreement. Mutala started the season in the AHL with Colorado, notching one assist in four contests. The 6-foot, 200-pound winger then returned to finish out his career with the Tri-City Americans of the WHL. He would wrap up the 2020-21 campaign by registering 20 points in 19 games with the Americans. In total, the 20-year-old collected 65 goals and 89 assists in 217 total WHL contests.
The Eagles currently have thirteen players called up by the Colorado Avalanche. This season there have been fifteen players from the Eagles who have played in at least one game with the Avalanche.
Tonight is the fifth of six meetings between the Eagles and Gulls this season. Colorado is 1-2-1-0 against San Diego this season and has an overall record of 11-5-1-0 since joining the AHL in 2018. The Eagles will wrap up the series against the Gulls on Saturday.
