Eagles take on the Barracuda in 2021-22 Home Opener

The Colorado Eagles will face off against the San Jose Barracuda in the first home matchup of the season. This marks the first regular-season meeting of the two teams since the 2019-20 season.

Colorado lost to the Barracuda in the lone meeting of the two in the 2020-21 season, a 5-1 loss in the final game of the Pacific Division play-in tournament

The two teams met for a pair of pre-season games earlier this month. Colorado came out on top in both of those matches, notching four goals against the Barracuda in back-to-back nights.

Colorado currently has two players among the top ten shots-on-goal leaders in the league in Kiefer Sherwood (13 shots) and Jacob MacDonald (11 shots). San Jose had 34 shots in their single game of the season so far, while Colorado boasted 51 and 45 shots respectively in their first two games in Henderson.

Colorado’s all-time record against San Jose is 8-7-0, the Eagles are 6-2-0 against the Barracuda on home ice.

Roster Report

Forwards Jayson Megna, Martin Kaut and Mikhail Maltsev are all currently recalled to the Avalanche.

Dylan Sikura was recently reassigned to the Eagles after one game with the Avalanche against the St. Louis Blues.

By the Numbers

Colorado defeated San Jose two games in a row during the pre-season, winning 4-3 and 4-1.

The Eagles trailed 3-1 in the first pre-season matchup on October 9, before storming back with three goals in the final three minutes of the game from Jean-Luc Foudy and Ryan Wagner. The Eagles outshot the Barracuda 37-25 that night and went 0-for-1 on the power play and 1-for-1 on the penalty kill.

The next night on October 10, Colorado led for most of the contest. Alex Beaucage had two goals, while Kiefer Sherwood and Luka Burzan each netted one goal. The Eagles again outshot the Barracuda, this time 40-30, and went 1-for-5 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.

Colorado - San Jose Connections

San Jose captain Jaycob Megna is the brother of forward Jayson Megna (currently recalled by the Avalanche). Former Eagles captain Mark Alt now skates for San Jose after being traded from Ontario where he played last season. Eagles defenseman Keaton Middleton spent two seasons with the Barracuda before being signed by Colorado. San Jose defenseman Nicolas Meloche played two seasons for the Eagles and won a Kelly Cup with Colorado in 2018.
