APPLEBY STYMIES EAGLES AS MOOSE TOP COLORADO, 2-0

Appleby Stymies Eagles as Moose Top Colorado, 2-0

Mar 22, 2019

LOVELAND, CO. – Manitoba goaltender Ken Appleby stopped all 32 shots he faced, while forwards Mason Appleton and J.P. Lipon each netted a goal, propelling the Moose to a 2-0 victory over the Colorado Eagles. Colorado was held 0-for-6 on the power play, while Manitoba buried one goal on three opportunities on the man-advantage.

The scoring would start when Manitoba cashed in on a power play just 6:45 into the contest, as Appleton would collect a centering feed on top of the crease and snap a shot into the back of the net to give the Moose a 1-0 edge.

The first period would see a bevy of big hits, complimented by a pair of fights, as Sheldon Dries dropped the gloves with Lipon while Kale Kessy fought Ryan White.

Heading into the second period, Manitoba would stand tall on the penalty kill, shutting down three Eagles power plays in the middle frame. That would set up the Moose to stretch their lead when Lipon skated trough the right-wing circle before firing a wrister past Colorado goalie Pavel Francouz to make it a 2-0 Manitoba lead with 4:08 remaining in the period.

The Eagles would come out roaring in the third period, generating three odd-man rushes and outshooting the Moose 13-5 in the final 20 minutes. Still unable to solve Appleby, Colorado would be forced to pull Francouz in favor of the extra attacker in the final minutes of the contest. Despite creating several chances, Appleby would not be beaten and Manitoba would hold on for the 2-0 victory.

The Eagles return to action when they host the Manitoba Moose at the Budweiser Events Center on Saturday, March 23rd at 7:05pm MT.
