After a shot from the point, the puck bounced off the Abbotsford Canucks goaltender and landed on the stick of Colorado Eagles forward Adam Beckman, who sent it top shelf for the first goal of the 2026-27 season at Blue Arena.
Beckman made an impact again in the shootout, scoring the only goal to help Colorado earn a 4-3 win over Abbotsford in its home opener.
“I try to excel offensively, but with that being said, I’m trying to be as much of an impact player in every kind of situation whether it's killing penalties or playing in different situations,” Beckman said.
In his first four games with the Eagles, Beckman has tallied two regulation goals, both of which opened up the scoring each game. Beckman is in his eighth professional season, having played 304 games between the Iowa Wild (2020-24), Utica Comets (2024-25), and Bridgeport Islanders (2024-26).
He entered the season with 104 goals and 95 assists across his AHL career, along with 23 games of NHL experience. Across three seasons (2021-24), Beckman tallied three assists during his time with the Minnesota Wild.
“The NHL is a little bit of a different game; you’ve got to think a lot quicker and stuff like that,” Beckman said. “But at the American League level, it's a tough game, too, so they both are a grind and you're just trying to work through and just try to come every day and make an impact.”
It’s all about making an impact in any way possible for Beckman. After several seasons of moving between organizations, Beckman said his focus has remained on making the most of the opportunity in front of him and trying to be the best version of himself at any level.
Beckman's offensive production dates back to his junior career, when he established himself as one of the Western Hockey League’s top scorers. During the2019-20 season, he recorded 107 points in 63 games with the Spokane Chiefs, earning the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy as WHL player of the year and the Bob Clarke Trophy as the league's top scorer.
The following season, he appeared in his first AHL game for the Iowa Wild and went on to get five points in nine games before being loaned back to the Chiefs.
After beginning his professional career with the Iowa Wild, Beckman was traded to the Utica Comets in 2024 and the Bridgeport Islanders in 2025.
Following the 2025-26 season, when he led the Islanders with 51 points in 68 games, Beckman entered the summer as an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career, allowing him to choose his next destination. Beckman said Colorado offered the opportunity he was looking for, both on and off the ice.
“I’ve heard nothing but good things about the [Avalanche] organization, but down here, it’s unreal. The atmosphere playing here is unreal; the city is a really nice, underrated city to be a part of,” Beckman said. “So for me, when I had the opportunity, it was just kind of a no-brainer to come here, and I’m just super excited to be a part of it.”
