Colorado Completes Two-Game Sweep of Roadrunners with 5-3 Win
Oct 5, 2026
TUCSON, AZ. – Colorado forward Tristen Nielsen netted a pair of goals, including the game-winner, while defenseman Domenick Fensore notched three assists, as the Eagles completed a two-game sweep of the Tucson Roadrunners with a 5-3 victory on Sunday. Goaltender Nikita Novoselov earned his first AHL win in his debut, making 20 saves on 23 shots.
Colorado would open the scoring when forward Tristen Nielsen bashed home a one-timer from the bottom of the right-wing circle, giving the Eagles a 1-0 edge just 6:47 into the contest.
A loose rebound near the crease would allow forward Nikita Prishchepov to tuck the puck into the back of the net, expanding Colorado’s advantage to 2-0 with 5:11 remaining in the first period.
As time wound down, Tucson defenseman Montana Onyebuchi would light the lamp with a wrister from the blue line, slicing the deficit to 2-1 at the 18:36 mark of the opening frame. The Eagles would go on to outshoot the Roadrunners 15-10 in the period and left for the first intermission still on top, 2-1.
Colorado would jump back on the scoreboard just 5:04 into the second period, as forward Maros Jedlicka would set up at the top of the crease before steering home a centering feed, expanding the Eagles lead to 3-1.
After failing to connect on a 5-on-3 power play, the Roadrunners would convert at even strength, as forward Kevin Rooney buried a wrister from the left-wing circle to trim the deficit to 3-2 with only 52 seconds left in the middle frame.
Tucson would strike early in the third period when forward Vadim Moroz beat Novoselov with a wrister, tying the game at 3-3 just 2:58 into the final frame.
Colorado would jump back in the driver’s seat when Nielsen flew down the ice on a breakaway before tucking the puck through the five-hole of goalie Jaxson Stauber, putting the Eagles up 4-3 at the 11:42 mark.
As time wound down, Tucson would pull Stauber in favor of the extra attacker, but it would be Colorado forward Taylor Makar who would capitalize with an empty-netter to round out the 5-3 score with 1:06 left to play.
Stauber suffered the loss in net, allowing four goals on 30 shots. The Eagles finished the night going 0-for-5 on the power play and a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
The Eagles will be back in action when they return home to take on the Abbotsford Canucks on Friday, October 9th at 7:05pm MT at Blue Arena. Tickets for all Colorado Eagles home games are on sale now and can be purchased at ColoradoEagles.com
