Colorado Eagles Mourn Loss of Les Borsheim

WINDSOR, CO. – The Colorado Eagles organization is saddened to announce the passing of former player and longtime broadcaster Les Borsheim, who passed away Tuesday at the age of 47. Les played three seasons in an Eagles sweater, helping Colorado capture a Central Hockey League Championship in 2006-07. He then turned his passion to the broadcast booth beginning in 2011, as he spent the past 15 seasons serving as the color commentator on the team’s radio broadcast, including the Eagles back-to-back ECHL Kelly Cup Championships in 2017 and 2018.
“We have lost a great teammate, broadcaster and friend,” said Eagles president Ryan Bach. “While his passion and toughness will always be the hallmark of his time on the ice, his greatest legacy will be that of a man who exemplified kindness, friendship and inspiration. We are all so happy for the treasured memories that we will carry with us, of a man who was not only a fierce competitor as a player, but also a wonderful friend and ambassador of the sport.”
Les played six seasons professionally, including time with the AHL’s Philadelphia Phantoms, the Oklahoma City Blazers of the CHL and the UHL’s Quad City Mallards. After suffering serious injuries in a motorcycle accident in 2008, he would go on to inspire countless individuals through his work with Team Borsheim, speaking to students at schools throughout Northern Colorado, while also spending time as an assistant coach for local youth hockey teams.
“Spending the past 15 seasons with Les was truly a blessing and I am so appreciative of the time that we were able to enjoy together in the broadcast booth,” said Eagles play-by-play broadcaster Kevin McGlue. “He never failed to bring a smile with him to the arena, and I will always remember his passion for the Eagles and for the people of Northern Colorado. He viewed every single day as a gift and anyone who ever met him couldn’t help but feel their spirits boosted after spending time with him. We are going to miss him dearly and take solace in knowing that the legacy he left will endure.”
