Colorado Roars Back for 2-1 Win over Texas

Nov 2, 2021

LOVELAND, CO. – The Colorado Eagles scored two goals in the third period to erase a 1-0 deficit and propel Colorado to the team’s first home win of the season in a 2-1 victory over the Texas Stars on Tuesday. Eagles Goaltender Justus Annunen made 28 saves on 29 shots to collect his second win of the season in net, while forwards Dylan Sikura and Jean-Luc Foudy each lit the lamp in the win.

The first period would see Colorado earn back-to-back power plays in the first five minutes of play, but the Stars penalty kill would rise to the occasion and keep the scoresheet clean. The Eagles would outshoot Texas 14-7 in the opening 20 minutes of action, but the two teams would head to the first intermission with the game still scoreless.

A 5-on-3 powerplay for Texas early in the second period would create the game’s first goal, as forward Joel L’Esperance hammered a one-timer from the left-wing circle into the back of the net. The tally was L’Esperance’s team-leading third of the season and gave the Stars a 1-0 edge at the 7:00 mark of the middle frame.

Colorado would go on to earn three power-play opportunities in the second period, but goaltender Colton Point and the Texas penalty kill would thwart those efforts and the Stars would close out the second stanza still leading, 1-0.

The Eagles would finally breakthrough in the third period when Sikura skated through the top of the left-wing circle and snapped a wrister into the back of the net. The goal pushed Sikura’s point streak to six games and tied the game at 1-1 just 1:04 into the final frame.

Minutes later, Colorado would take advantage of a four-minute, double-minor to Stars forward Nicholas Caamano, as Alex Newhook dished a pass on the rush to the top of the crease and Foudy would beat Point five-hole to give the Eagles a 2-1 edge at the 6:44 mark of the third stanza.

Texas would go on to earn three power plays down the final stretch, but Annunen was rock solid in net and Colorado held on for the 2-1 victory. The Eagles outshot the Stars 32-29 and went 1-for-8 on the power play and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.

The Eagles will return to action when they take on the Texas Stars on Wednesday, November 3rd at 7:05 pm MT at the Budweiser Events Center.
