Colorado Avalanche prospects will head to Southern California prior to training camp to compete in the 2019 Rookie Faceoff from Sept. 7-10 at Great Park Ice.
The Avs will join the Anaheim Ducks, Arizona Coyotes, Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks and Veags Golden Knights in showcasing the skills of their prospects and other young players in exhibition games.
Each team will participate in three contests over the course of four days at Great Park Ice, which is located at 888 Ridge Valley, Irvine, CA 92618. All three of the Avalanche's games will be played at FivePoint Arena.
Colorado opens the rookie tournament versus the Golden Knights on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 2:00 p.m. MT and then plays the Kings on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. MT. Monday will be a practice day for each of the six clubs before the exhibition closes on Tuesday, Sept. 10, with the Avs playing the Coyotes at 12 p.m. MT. A full tournament schedule is below.
Each game will have a similar format to those at the NHL level (three, 20-minute periods with stoppages, penalties, etc.). Ticket information is available at www.AnaheimDucks.com/RookieFaceoff. Broadcast and stream information will be announced in the future.
This is the fourth year that the Avalanche has taken part in a rookie tournament. The team hosted and won the inaugural Rookie Showcase in 2016 at the Ice Centre at the Promenade in Westminster and participated in both the San Jose Sharks' Prospect Showcase in 2017 and the 2018 Vegas Rookie Faceoff.
Colorado will announce its Rookie Faceoff roster and its training camp schedule at a later date.
