Denisenko Scores a Pair as Silver Knights Defeat Colorado, 5-4 in OT

Nov 8, 2023

LOVELAND, CO. – Henderson forward Grigori Denisenko scored two goals, including the game-winner just 57 seconds into overtime, as the Silver Knights defeated the Colorado Eagles 5-4 on Wednesday. Brad Hunt, D.J. Busdeker, Alex Beaucage and Wyatt Aamodt all netted a goal in the loss. The OT loss gave Colorado seven of a possible eight points as they concluded their four-game homestand.

Henderson would waste little time in notching the game’s first goal, as defenseman Jake Bischoff took advantage of traffic in front of the net when he lit the lamp with a shot from the blue line, giving the Silver Knights a 1-0 edge just 3:41 into the contest.

The Eagles would generate an answer 1:13 later, as Aamodt collected a rebound off the leg pad of Henderson goalie Jiri Patera and belted the puck into the back of the net, tying the game at 1-1.

As time ticked down in the opening frame, a Colorado turnover between the circles would land on the tape of forward Adam Cracknell, who would bury a wrister and give the Silver Knights a 2-1 lead with 3:20 remaining in the period.

Still trailing 2-1 as the puck dropped on the second period, the Eagles would level the score once again, as Ivan Ivan darted through the left-wing circle before throwing a cross-slot pass onto the tape of Beaucage, who would then wire a shot into the back of the net. The goal was Beaucage’s first tally of the season and tied the game at 2-2 with 13:14 remaining in the middle frame.

Colorado would grab its first lead of the contest just 2:42 later when Busdeker created a turnover behind the net and wrapped around the post, stuffing the puck past Patera to put the Eagles on top, 3-2. Colorado would go on to outshoot Henderson 12-7 in the period and carried a 3-2 advantage into the second intermission.

Denisenko would tie things up at the 7:57 mark of the third period when he finished off a cross-slot pass with a goal from the bottom of the left-wing circle to knot the score at 3-3.

Henderson would strike again just 2:47 later when forward Mason Geertsen capped of a 2-on-1 rush, beating Eagles goalie Justus Annunen with a wrister to put the Silver Knights back on top, 4-3.

Needing an equalizer late in the contest, Colorado would get one when Hunt stepped into a shot from the right-wing circle, lighting the lamp and evening the game at 4-4 with 4:12 left to play in regulation.

As the game shifted into overtime, Denisenko would fire a shot from the circle that would be denied by Annunen, but Denisenko would flush home his own rebound to give Henderson the 5-4 win just 57 seconds into the extra session.

Colorado was outshot by a final count of 33-29, as the Eagles finished the night going 0-for-2 on the power play and 1-for-1 on the penalty kill. Annunen suffered the loss in net, allowing four goals on 33 shots, while Patera collected his fifth win of the season, making 25 saves on 29 shots.
