Eagles Kick off Round 2 Series Against Reign

The Colorado Eagles will face off against the Ontario Reign for the first game of round two of the Calder Cup playoffs at the Budweiser Events Center tonight at 7:05 pm MST.

The last time the two teams met was in a three-game series back in April where the Eagles would beat the Reign in two out of the three matches. Ontario would take the first win of the series when they netted four power play goals to help lead the Reign to a 5-3 win over the Colorado Eagles. Ontario forward Akil Thomas netted a hat trick and added an assist in the win, while fellow forward T.J. Tynan also posted a four-point night with a goal and three assists. Eagles forward Kiefer Sherwood notched a goal and an assist in the loss, extending his point streak to 12 games.

 

The Colorado Eagles would earn redemption when they built a 5-0 lead and carried it to a 6-4 victory over the Ontario Reign in the second game of the series. Defenseman Jacob MacDonald led the way with a pair of goals, while forward Mikhail Maltsev notched three assists in the win. Hunter Miska earned the victory in net by making 27 saves on 31 shots, as 11 Eagles skaters collected a point in the win, including multi-performances for MacDonald, Miska and forward Andreas Wingerli.

 

In the third and final game, Colorado forward Dylan Sikura notched his second hat trick of the season, while goaltender Hunter Miska made 22 saves on 23 shots, as the Eagles defeated the Ontario Reign, 5-1 in the regular season finale on Saturday. Forward Jayson Megna generated a goal and an assist in the victory, as fellow forward Kiefer Sherwood notched an assist to end the season with an AHL-best, 14-game point streak.

The Colorado Eagles have a 39-22-4-3 record for the regular season and a playoff record of 2-0-0-0, sitting as the 3rd seed in the Pacific Division. The Eagles finished the regular season with a 3-2-0-1 record against the Reign. 

 

Ontatio finished the regular season with a 41-18-5-4 record, currently the 2nd seed in the Pacific Division. The Reign currently have a playoff record of 2-0-0-0 after defeating the San Diego Gulls, last week.
