Eagles Roar Back to Defeat Abbotsford 4-3 in Shootout
Oct 10, 2026
LOVELAND, CO. – Colorado scored three straight goals to force overtime and picked up the game-winning goal from forward Adam Beckman in a shootout, as the Eagles rallied back to defeat the Abbotsford Canucks 4-3 on Friday. Goaltender Ilya Nabokov made 29 saves on 32 shots and stopped all three attempts in the shootout to earn his second-straight win in net.
An early power play would set up Abbotsford forward Ty Mueller to light the lamp with a one-timer from the left-wing circle, putting the Canucks on top 1-0 just 1:44 into the contest. Abbotsford would earn three more chances on the power play in the opening frame, but Colorado’s penalty kill would rise to the occasion, sending the Eagles to the first intermission trailing, 1-0.
The Canucks would extend their lead when defenseman Jimmy Schuldt wired home a wrister from the left point, giving Abbotsford a 2-0 advantage at the 5:02 mark of the second period.
Just 23 seconds later, Canucks forward Vilmer Alriksson would bash a loose puck past goalie Ilya Nabokov, making it 3-0.
A Colorado power play would help stem the tide, as Beckman collected a rebound at the bottom of the left-wing circle before tucking it home, slicing the deficit to 3-1 at the 7:56 mark of the middle frame.
After killing off a four-minute, double minor, the Eagles would strike again, as forward Taylor Makar swatted home a loose puck near the crease, trimming Abbotsford’s lead to 3-2 with 2:39 left to play in the second stanza.
Still trailing 3-2 as the puck dropped on the third period, Colorado would find an equalizer on the rush, as forward Gavin Brindley steered a centering feed into the back of the net from the low slot, leveling the score at 3-3 with 7:19 remaining.
As the game transitioned into overtime, the Eagles would be forced to kill off an early power play in the extra session. After successfully denying the man-advantage, the contest would shift to a shootout. Beckman would deliver the lone goal of the shootout, while Nabokov closed the door on all three Canucks shooters, giving Colorado the 4-3 victory.
The Eagles outshot Abbotsford 37-32, as Colorado finished 1-for-6 on the power play and 7-for-8 on the penalty kill.
