Eagles Take on First Place Stockton

Eagles Take on First Place Stockton

Mar 18, 2022

The Colorado Eagles will face the Stockton Heat for the last time this regular season at home in back-to-back matchups including Friday at 7:05 pm MST.

The last time the two teams faced off was in December, with Stockton winning both games.

The first game of that series proved to be a close one. The teams sat tied at zero in the first intermission. Stockton forward Byron Froese would open the scoring 3:37 into the second period. Jordan Gross and Callahan Burke would each net a goal, with just 46 seconds between them, giving the Eagles a 2-1 lead heading into the final frame. Stockton’s Glenn Gawdin would score a power-play tally just 55 seconds into the third period, tying the game at two. It would remain tied through the end of regulation until Stockton’s Jakob Pelletier netted the game-winner in overtime.

The last meeting between the two teams also had a late scoring start, tied at zero after 20 minutes. Stockton opened the scoring early in the second, scoring four unanswered goals during the period. Pelletier, Walker Duehr and Eetu Tuulola all netting even-strength tallies before Luke Philp tacked on a short-handed goal. Dalton Smith and Ryan Wagner each netted a goal for the Eagles but it would not be enough for a comeback. Duehr would get a second goal on the Eagle’s empty net to seal the deal.

Eagles’ goaltender Trent Miner made 19 saves on 22 shots before being replaced by Justus Annunen who made 6 saves on 7 shots. Stockton secured the win, 5-2.
