The Colorado Eagles will face the San Jose Barracuda for the first time since February 8th, 2020 in the final round of the Pacific Division play-in tournament.
Eagles defenseman Justin Barron scored the game-winning goal 9:00 into overtime to round out a three-point performance and propel Colorado to a 5-4 victory over the Ontario Reign on Tuesday. Defenseman Keaton Middleton collected two goals and an assist in the victory, while forward T.J. Tynan notched a goal and an assist. Goaltender Adam Werner stopped 27 of 31 shots and Colorado was outshot in the contest 31-29, as the Eagles finished 1-for-3 on the power play and 4-for-6 on the penalty kill.
The San Jose Barracuda finished the regular season in 4th place in the Pacific Division going 15-15-4-2. The Barracuda won the first game of the play-in tournament yesterday 2-1 over the Tucson Roadrunners.

Forwards Logan O’Connor, Liam O’Brien, Kiefer Sherwood, Alex Newhook, and Jayson Megna are recalled by the Avalanche along with defensemen Jacob MacDonald, Kyle Burroughs, Dan Renouf, Dennis Gilbert, and Conor Timmins.
Defenseman Nate Clurman and Peter Tischke along with forward Sheldon Dries will be out with lower-body injuries. Forward Shane Bowers is expected to miss tonight’s game with an upper-body injury.
Wednesday’s play-in game is the first time the Eagles have faced the Barracuda during the 2020-21 season. Colorado went 4-3-0 against San Jose during the 2019-20 season.
San Jose captain Jaycob Megna is the brother of forward Jayson Megna (currently recalled by the Avalanche). Eagles defenseman Keaton Middleton spent two seasons with the Barracuda before being signed by Colorado last July. Keaton’s brother Jacob is currently a defenseman for the Barracuda. San Jose defenseman Nicolas Meloche played two seasons for the Eagles and won a Kelly Cup with Colorado in 2018.
