Eagles Wrap Up Holiday Set Against San Jose

The Colorado Eagles will host the San Jose Barracuda on Wednesday for the final night of their back-to-back matchups this week. This marks the team’s sixth matchup against San Jose this year, the fourth at the Budweiser Events Center.

The Eagles suffered a 4-1 loss against the Barracuda at the B.E.C. last night with goals scored by San Jose forwards Jeffrey Viel, Sasha Chmelevski, and Jayden Halbgewachs, with Viel netting two including an empty-netter. Martin Kaut scored the Eagles’ only goal during the first period, on a power play. Barracuda goalie Alexei Melnichuk recorded 34 saves in his team’s victory last night. Goaltender Justus Annunen allowed four goals on 26 shots. The Eagles went 7-for-8 on the penalty kill, spending 16 minutes in the box.

Colorado has gone 1-4-0 against the San Jose Barracuda so far this season and will seek a much-needed win tonight in their last game before the holiday break.

Roster Report

The Colorado Avalanche have recalled co-captain Jacob MacDonald, defenseman Jordan Gross and forward Alex Newhook. The Eagles have also called up defenseman Luke Martin and Charles Edouard D’Astous as well as goaltender Trent Miner from the Utah Grizzlies.

Former Colorado Eagles captain Mark Alt is now an alternate captain for San Jose. Keaton Middleton spent two seasons with the Barracuda before coming to Colorado. San Jose captain Jaycob Megna is the brother of Eagles co-captain Jayson Megna who is currently recalled by the Avalanche. San Jose defenseman Nicolas Meloche played two seasons for the Eagles and won a Kelly Cup with Colorado in 2018.
