Iowa Returns to Colorado to Face Eagles

Jan 21, 2022

The Colorado Eagles will face off against the Iowa Wild in Loveland this weekend. It is the first time the Eagles have seen the Wild on home ice this season and the first time the Wild have made the trip to Colorado since December of 2019.

The last two meetings between these teams proved to be quite exciting. Both back-and-forth matchups would be decided outside of regulation time. On December 29, the Wild struck first on a power-play goal from Kyle Rau in the first period. Nate Clurman would net his first professional goal mid-way through the second period to tie things up. Rob Hamilton scored just 38 seconds into the third period, giving the Eagles the lead. That lead would last most of the period until the Eagles took a last-minute penalty that resulted in Iowa’s Marco Rossi tying things up on the Wild power play. Rossi would then score the game-winner in overtime, giving Iowa the win.

Things looked similar on New Year's Eve when the teams faced off again. Dylan Sikura and Iowa’s Joseph Cramarossa both netted goals in the first period. Charle-Edouard D’Astous would then give the Eagles the lead early in the second. Marco Rossi tied things up for the second game in a row with a tally early in the third period. The tie would last through regulation time and the five-minute overtime period, leading to a shootout to decide the winner.

Hunter Miska stood tall in his first start since the October 30 game at Stockton. Miska stopped all three Wild shooters, coming up with some beautiful saves. Kiefer Sherwood would score the only goal of the shootout, giving the Eagles a thrilling win.
