Colorado Eagles Forward #16 Taylor Makar, Brother of Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar, prepares for a game against the Abbotsford Canucks at Blue Arena on October 10, 2026. Makar is in his second full season with the Eagles after recording 24 points in 52 games during the 2025–26 regular season.
Growing up with an older brother can be a competition for dominance. Growing up with Cale Makar may have taken that competition to a higher level.
Sibling rivalry was one way Colorado Eagles forward Taylor Makar connected with his brother. Sometimes, that meant going all out and going head-to-head with Cale.
That’s brotherly love in the Makar household. It's really competitive, as Taylor would describe it.
"Playing games, either football or straight-up fighting. We would go in the house, put on our gloves, and box”
Taylor has carried that intense competitiveness onto the professional hockey rink.
Before joining the Colorado Eagles, Taylor Makar spent three seasons at the University of Massachusetts. Makar transferred to the University of Maine for the 2024–25 season, recording 18 goals and 12 assists for 30 points in 38 games.
The Colorado Avalanche selected him in the seventh round of the 2021 NHL Draft. Makar appeared in six games (including 1 playoff game) with the Eagles during the 2024-25 season,
In his first full season with the team, Makar recorded 14 goals and 10 assists for 24 points in 52 games. Makar appeared in all 17 Calder Cup Playoff games, recording 2 goals and 4 assists for 6 points.
Now playing in his second full season with Colorado, Makar is focused on building his own identity as a professional hockey player.
"Building a role for myself, finding an identity," Makar said. "Just realizing what type of player I am to get to that next level. That is something I am always trying to work on."
Away from hockey, Makar has been working on his golf game with help from his teammate Jake Wise, whom he considers his favorite partner on the course. Makar says he is trying to lower his handicap, which currently sits at 8.6.
Makar enjoys fishing and listening to music. His favorite artist is Post Malone, and his favorite albums are Stoney and Beerbongs & Bentleys.
Overall, Makar’s biggest goal is helping the Eagles win a Calder Cup championship.
After coming up short last season, Makar believes this is the team and coaching staff to do it this year.
"As a unit, we are getting tighter. We are starting to play the right way, and we think this is a good group of guys to get it done this year.”
