Eagles Wrap-up Five-Game Road Trip Against the Gulls

The Colorado Eagles will finish their five-game road trip in California against the San Diego Gulls on Saturday 20th. It is the third time these two clubs will face-off this season.

Last night the Eagles came away with their first win of the season. Colorado beat the Ontario Reign 4-2 and goaltender Trent Miner picked up his first AHL win making 24 saves on 26 shots. Colorado Eagles forward T.J. Tynan netted a pair of goals and added an assist, while fellow forward Kiefer Sherwood added a goal and an assist. Also scoring for the Eagles was Charlie Gerard who netted his first AHL goal during the third period. Colorado finished the night going 0-for-2 on the power play, but the Eagles were a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.

The San Diego Gulls suffered their first loss of the season last night falling 5-1 to the Bakersfield Condors. Despite the setback, San Diego leads the AHL in wins (6) and points (12). San Diego came away with two wins against the Eagles last weekend 3-2 on Saturday and in overtime 3-2 Sunday.

Roster Report

Jayson Megna, Jacob MacDonald, Sheldon Dries, Adam Werner, Peyton Jones, Logan O’Connor, Conor Timmins, Dan Renouf, Dennis Gilbert, and Kyle Burroughs are all currently recalled by the Colorado Avalanche. Forwards TJ Tynan, Miikka Salomaki, Kiefer Sherwood, and goaltender Hunter Miska were reassigned to the Eagles on Thursday. Defenseman Greg Pateryn was reassigned to the Eagles February 12th. 

Forwards Martin Kaut, Sasha Mutala, and Liam O’Brien did not make the trip due to injury. Goaltender Hunter Miska remains in covid protocol.

 

By the Numbers

Saturday’s matchup is the sixteenth matchup between the clubs since the Eagles joined the American Hockey League in 2018. The Eagles opened their season last weekend to the Gulls and went 0-1-1 in Irvine. Colorado has an 6-6-2-1 record against San Diego. Colorado will see San Diego six times this season, Saturday marks the third time since the season began February 13th.

 

Colorado – San Diego Connections

Andrew Agozzino of San Diego played 56 games for the Eagles during the 2018-19 season. In the same season Agozzino played 11 games with the Colorado Avalanche before signing a two-year, two-way contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins on July 1st 2019.

Newly acquired forward Kiefer Sherwood will play against his former team for the first time this season. Sherwood played over 90 games with the Gulls before being signed by Colorado October 9, 2020.
